AS DARKNESS BECKONS – LE MANS 1971

In a race of attrition, the Martini Racing Porsche 917K driven by Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko scored a deserved victory.  It took the lead in the 13th hour and after crossing the finishing line for the final time it had covered a total distance of 3315 miles at an average speed of 138 mph, both Le Mans records.
