Victory for Japan

Volker Weilder, Johnny Herbert and Bertrand Gachot in the loud and striking No. 55 Mazdaspeed 787B. In this doubly historic victory, it was the first by a Japanese manufacturer and also the first by a rotary engine. The team scored its first victory in the face of stern opposition from Sauber-Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar and Peugeot. Le Mans 1991
